There are many excited business owners and operators in the fitness industry across the state of New York who learned today that Governor Andrew Cuomo’s will allow gyms to reopen on Monday, August 24, 2020. Gyms and fitness studios have been closed in New York City since March 16th and, since March 22nd across the state.
The press conference announcement on Monday, August 17th comes after months of complaints from gym owners and industry leaders who petitioned that they were being unfairly discriminated against because there was no plan for their businesses to reopen.
That all changes today but it won’t be easy to manage.
The challenge for studio and gym operators is they must operate at 33% capacity, support enhanced ventilation requirements for their HVAC systems, enforce mask-wearing at all times, and will not be able to hold indoor group fitness classes until they pass local inspection.
