What makes your facility unique?

Stick with me on this one…I’m going to take the scenic route to make my point. But first a quote (please read the first sentence as to why we are starting with a quote). “People can get a cheeseburger anywhere, okay? They come to Chotchkie’s for the atmosphere and the attitude. Okay? That’s what the flair’s about. It’s about fun.” And that’s what today’s blog is about flair…specifcally what goes into making a buying decision. Flair. That and a good cheeseburger…

How are you celebrating Equipment Week?

As the Official Blog of the Health and Wellness industry (we are also looking for an official beer, and an official time keeper) I anointed this week “Equipment Week.” Equipment Week isn’t about family and friends. And it’s not about cinnamon lattes and Yule logs. Equipment Week is about your members. It’s about your business. And it’s about the one thing that separates you from having an empty room. So let me tell you what you should be thinking about during Equipment Week.

What is the fitness industries “sliced bread”?

The other day, I was talking to a colleague about the new sales goal setting system in MoSo. And without a second thought I said, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!” I am prone to hyperbole but we have taken something very standard, and improved upon it in a way nobody has done up to this point. And when you use it, it will dramatically help you get more members. But it got me thinking about our industry as a whole, and what other things could be considered the best thing since sliced bread…

How Steve Jobs helped reinvent the fitness industry

I actually had another blog written today, but the news of Steve Jobs passing pretty much trumped everything so I thought it would be appropriate to consider for a minute what kind of impact he might have had on YOUR business. And in thinking about this blog (As usual no real research was done but in this case I really didn’t have time) I was surprised how many different ways your facility was impacted.

What we can learn from the DMV

If loving Def Leppard and being able to recite all the lyrics from their epic 1983 album Pyromania doesn’t make you feel old, think about this little nugget . . . a 1984 Silver Honda Civic. If you were to buy that sweet little ride today and wanted to get it registered; it would be tagged with historic plates! So what should we learn from that…

Are Yoga and Fitness at war?

I love watching commercials for bottled water. The images and words they use to convince us how absolutely pure their water is, always makes me smile. Idyllic pictures of mountain streams and glaciars…and Fiji (for some unknown reason, even to the Fijians they apparently are a trusted source for water.) The reality is that none of the water we drink comes from those sources…(keep reading I promise there is a point)

Could you still become a professional athlete?

All of us at some point realize that the dream of being a professional athlete is probably over. For me it was 2003. It wasn’t because I had an injury, or was too old, or even because I didn’t have a NIKE sponsorship yet. No there was another reason I knew I would never become a professional athlete, and specifically an NFL player (not even a kicker). And what makes it so sad was that nobody actually had to tell me. I just knew.
