It’s Softball Playoff Time – You, and we, are going to win!

Tuesday night, the MoSO softball team, aptly named Login & Password, will be playing in our first, and hopefully, not final, game of our league playoffs. And I have to say, I am enormously excited. School Girl Giddy excited. I’m talking Red Ryder BBGun on Christmas Morning excited. I’m excited for two reasons. The first, is because I’m excited for you (Huh? Yup, I will explain later). But second, because we’re playing for something big. Something huge. Something bigger than I ever could have imagined. You know what it is?

We’re playing to be champions of the JCC of Greater Washington Softball League. That’s right. THE JCC of Greater Washington. And you know how you to get to be contending to be champions of the JCC of Greater Washington Softball League? By playing every game of the season. All 13 of them. With your players showing up each time, ready to go.

And you know how you play those 13 games? One by one. Inning by inning. 9 people stepping out on the field, glove in hand with 3 simple goals – Out 1, Out 2, and out 3.

And after each out you cheer. And you yell support. And when you go back to the dugout, you fist bump, and you high five, and you joke around. (Of course, if you are our HR Director Sandra, you may have to ice down a black eye from an errant line drive. Fortunately for us, she already knew the workman’s comp rules on this one).

What I love is that you figure things out. Who does what well? Who plays this spot best? And you start to really care. And after 13 games, 7 innings each, it’s playoff time. And we are ready.

I don’t think anyone volunteered to play on our softball team because they were thinking about how they’d like to be in the playoffs. I think they were thinking about how there was a sheet of paper in front of them, and it sounded fun, so they put their names down.

But something happens when you start committing. You start to care. You start to have a stake in it. You want it more, and you want to be successful at it, because you start realizing what being successful in it really means.

So, Im excited to be part of this team, that actually cares, and supports and fist bumps and laughs, and ridiculous as it sounds, takes pride in the Green Jersey with JCCGW Softball emblazoned across it.

So come support us – clients, co-workers and friends, this coming Tuesday Night at 9pm, under the lights at the JCC on Montrose Road. We’re bringing the championship to Betterville.

Oh, and why am I excited for you? Because man, you want to talk about where to find new members? Support your local softball leagues. Get your name in front of those players. Offer a promotion within the league. Because people may have started playing because someone put a piece of paper in front of them and said “Would you be one of our 9?” But I can tell you. 3 months later, they are thinking physical, and rediscovering exercise. Can you think of a better time to engage them? I cant.
