Top 5 Gym Promotions you can only do in 2012!

Categories: Promoting Your Gym
You know I am always preaching new, fun ways to engage your members. Well, I think this is gonna be a huge year for doing that! 2012 is rife with opportunities to literally get, keep & know your members better. And I’m talking your new folks and current ones. So here, are my list of the Top 5 promotions you can plan for in your gym specifically because its 2012.

Mayan Apocolypse Gamble
As you probably know, there is a belief based on the Mayan calendar that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on December 21, 2012. (Btw, I am waaaaay simplifying the complexity of this quite phenomenal calculation. I’m just basing it on the fact that there was a Movie). But why not make it interesting? Offer people the chance to not pay their membership until December 22nd! If the world ends, they got almost 12 months free! However, if it doesn’t, they owe double! It’s a little esoteric but it’s interesting. (Still not sure I’m using esoteric right).
Leap Year Day Free
Every 4 years we have a leap year starring our special guest February 29th. Why not make it a free day? An “It Doesn’t count” day. Bring a friend! Bring 2! Do something special. The name itself conjures up images of physical activity (although I also envision leprechauns) so capitalize on it!
Election Day Push Up Contest
Here is a way to get to know your members – find out their political leanings! It’s a great way to break ice between segments of your membership and create common ground (although it could create an absolute deviseveness between 50% of your membership body!). If people enter, they choose their candidate ahead of time. If their candidate wins, they get to watch and jeer supporters of the losing candidate as they do as pushups equal to the number of electoral votes that went to the winner. If their candidate loses, they do the push ups and get jeered! It’s really a celebration of democracy at its best!
Olympic Year Decathalon
It’s an Olympic year, so why not do your own Olympics? Create a decathalon for your members to compete in this summer with some big prizes. Since it incorporates various skills, anyone can be the winner, really. Great way to sell classes, training sessions, and fake gold medallions!
Twitterama
2012 is the year of you mastering Twitter. Why? Because if the Mayan apocalypse happens, you’ll want to hear it from Ashton Kutcher first. Plus, don’t you want people to use your Twitter account more? (The answer is yes, btw, and if you aren’t doing Twitter stuff yet, it is time to start. Fitness is ideal for Twitter. Want ideas how to Tweet to your audience? Email me). But I digress as I’ve gotten a little too esoteric. (OK, that just cannot be right). Run a contest where people Tweet the reasons your gym rocks in 140 characters or less. You and your team will judge the winners and the winners will get a prize.
Those are my ideas. It’s gonna be a great 2012! Especially in Betterville. Wishing you all the best from everyone here at Motionsoft. Happy New Year!

Hi Hossein,
I like your ideas for 2012. Mostly, I’m interested in your ideas on what to tweet to your audience. I just opened my first twitter account for the club and I really don’t know what I’m doing. I’m also needing to spend some time tomorrow to finish up my myClub website and hopefully take a demo from someone who can show me what my members will see when they open an accuont.
I appreciate Motionsoft and am excited to be one of your fortunate customers. I’m working with Jon from MuscleUpMarketing.com thanks to a webinar you did with him a couple months ago.
Please give me tweet ideas if you have time.
Thank you!
