I had a thought watching the Republican Debate on CNN earlier this week. Now, before you think this is a political piece, it isn’t. I will tell you only that my political views fall somewhere between bleeding heart liberal and ultra conservative. In fact, truly, the only reason I watched was because I always get stuck watching Wolf Blitzer, spending hours pondering whether A) Wolf is short for something and B) if it’s a stage name and he was born Jeff Blitzelvits. Could you still become a professional athlete?

All of us at some point realize that the dream of being a professional athlete is probably over. For me it was 2003. It wasn’t because I had an injury, or was too old, or even because I didn’t have a NIKE sponsorship yet. No there was another reason I knew I would never become a professional athlete, and specifically an NFL player (not even a kicker). And what makes it so sad was that nobody actually had to tell me. I just knew.
